Mailing lists

The mailing lists are now closed and have been replaced by groups on this site. Some of the old mailing lists still receive messages for legacy users who have not yet made the switch.

I have set up a mailing list service through this website in an attempt to improve communication within our professional community. The lists will be closed (The list maintainer has to approve your addition to the list) but not moderated (You are responsible for the content of your postings to the list).

The lists available :

List name  Maintainer Description
cnp-consultants Adrian Fowle UK consultants in Clinical Neurophysiology - mainly members of the medical standing committee of the BSCN
atcn-members Gareth Payne Association of Trainees in Clinical Neurophysiology

Instructions

Constructing an email address

In the instructions that follow, I have not used the full email addresses because these attract spam when published. Please remember to add the usual "at sign" and the domain of this site including the .org.uk to the addresses described (to end up with the usual form someone@somewhere.org.uk).

Administration

Majordomo is largely automatic, but it is a little old and pedantic. Fortunately you won't need to do much admin. It sends out instructions which you may keep, but you will need to modify them as shown below. Administration commands should not be sent to the list. Instead construct an email address using majordomo. To increase your chances of success:
Use plain text format
When replying to majordomo, send only the lines it asks for - usually just one
Remove the "<" or similar characters added by your mail program
Use the end keyword, as in the examples below. This stops majordomo getting confused by all the disclaimers that your Trust sticks on the end

Further Information

You can get information about a list by sending messages to the majordomo address. Info and Intro followed by the list name send back brief and detailed information respectively. Instructions on the majordomo system itself can be obtained by sending the word Help on its own in the body of the message, to the majordomo address.

Examples

To suscribe to the consultants list send this to the majordomo address, not the list address. You only need the list name in the body of the message, not the list address:

subscribe cnp-consultants
end

To remove yourself from the same list use:

unsubscribe cnp-consultants
end

In either case you will get a message which you need to return to confirm. If subscribing, the list maintainer then gets a message to authorise you.
To receive full information about the consultants list send this to the majordomo address, not the list address. For some lists only members are allowed to do this:

info cnp-consultants
end
